why Good Dirt.
Meet the Pogue family!
Teaching the next generation how to nurture the soil and produce nutritious snack food
As fifth-generation farmers in Northern Victoria, we’re mad about good dirt, healthy soil life, and regenerative farming! We nurture the soil on our small acreage farm to produce the best popcorn around. That’s good news for you and for the planet. From the ground up - it all begins with Good Dirt.
Fraser Pogue – chief farmer and passionate about dirt. At first you might think he’s a laid-back country boy but he’s actually a soil nerd at heart. He has even won awards for his innovative farming techniques. Maybe he looks familiar after starring on Damon Gameau’s recent climate change documentary 2040.
Leanne Pogue—chief decision maker. Also, a Human Resources guru who loves to join forces with Fraser! She’s a snack food lover, provided it’s nutritious and it doesn’t harm the planet.
The mini Pogue’s – chief taste-testers. Always keen to get out in the paddock and check on the crop. Also our (mostly willing, occasionally heavily-bribed) popcorn video demo actors and lovers of farming for the future.
Cliff & Jan – Fraser’s parents, and our mentors, supporters and Jack & Jill of all trades. We couldn’t do it without them
Why The Good Dirt?
Regenerative farming has been around for hundreds of years, and it may sound complicated, but it’s not rocket science. (Although some plant and soil science can help!) It is simple, responsible farming the way people used to do it before chemicals and fast production replaced the old (slower) techniques that really work.
Our family combines regenerative farming methods with modern technology while also using less water. The result is sustainable and delicious food.
We generate biodiversity above and below the ground by growing other crops in the off-season. This nourishes the soil instead of stripping the nutrients. By using plants to sequester carbon and enhance our ecosystem, we’re able to grow produce that tastes delicious and is also great for the environment. We could talk all day about farming and soil health (and if you want to chat more with us, we’re definitely up for that!)
But maybe you just want the popcorn.
So quite simply, we generate healthy soil without harsh fertilisers or chemicals. It’s the same way your great grandparents would’ve farmed the land.
And the produce is seriously tasty.
“We need to embrace a more plant-rich diet. The food we do eat should ideally come from regenerative farming practices - like Fraser’s.”
– Damon Gameau, Director of 2040 & That Sugar Film
